Gateway to Other Attractions
Brighton is not just about piers and beaches. It is
also a gateway to other attractions on the south coast.
The South Downs Way extends for many miles through
Hampshire and Sussex. It skirts around the northern edge of Brighton
passing through Devils Dyke. From Devils Dyke there are spectacular
views of the surrounding countryside. Not surprisingly this is a popular
location for Hang gliding and Paragliding - so much so that at busy times
the two sports have to take turns to avoid getting in each others way.
During the summer an open top vintage
bus operates from Brighton sea front to Devils Dyke.
The coastline to the east of Brighton is characterised
by rugged chalk cliffs and massive sea defences. Twenty miles east of
Brighton, the South Downs Way meets the coast at Seven Sisters. - a
famous landmark and also the site of Seven Sisters Country Park.
Travel a few miles further east and you come to an
even more famous landmark - Beachy Head and its recently re-located
lighthouse.
