Day Trip to Avebury

AVEBURY

The ancient stone circle at Avebury is a World Heritage site. The circle is the largest in the world and believed to be over 4,000 years old.

Avebury may not be as famous as Stonehenge but, in the opinion of many, it is more interesting to visit. Unlike Stonehenge, the stones at Avebury are completely accessible. It is possible to walk right up to them, touch them and even sit in one of them! There are no admission fees or opening hours to worry about.

BUS ROUTES

Bus routes from Milton Keynes to Avebury

To travel to Avebury by bus, take the X5 from Milton Keynes to Oxford and then service 66 from Oxford to Swindon. It is a short ride on the TransWilts Express (service 49) from Swindon to Avebury.

A Stagecoach Explorer ticket purchased on the X5 from Milton Keynes will cost £9 (or £15 for a group of 5 - maximum of 2 adults) and will cover the entire journey.

Explorers prices on other Stagecoach routes are usually cheaper. These cheaper tickets can be used on all Stagecoach routes except the X5.

Note that some service 49 journeys are operated by First buses instead of Stagecoach. However, First will accept Stagecoach Explorer and Goldrider tickets on this particular route.

Avebury is a small village with limited amenities but the main bus stop is outside the Red Lion Inn which 'welcomes all visitors' and claims to serve food 'all day, every day'.
